Raising Funds & Awareness for Pediatric Oncology
Endurance athletes all know what it’s like to “Hit the Wall.” My niece Lauren Arnold taught me how to run around, climb over and smash through the wall – with a big smile on my face. At age 3, Lauren endured a series of surgeries and chemotherapy treatments to battle a rare form of ovarian cancer, including the removal of one of her ovaries and a 7 lb tumor (20% of her bodyweight). Blessed with an amazing family – mom Stephanie Cook and dad Chris Arnold – and world class care from Seattle Children’s Hospital, Lauren is now in remission and a healthy and rambunctious 5 year old. As blessed as we all feel, we carry forward the knowledge that at any given moment, another family is receiving a similar diagnosis. These families might not have health insurance, or a place to stay while their child undergoes treatment, or worst of all, have no prospect for recovery. Lauren’s Legs is about them – those kids and their families that day-in, day-out fill the rooms in the Seattle Children’s oncology wing.
How to Get Involved
Legs for Lauren is a non-profit organization benefitting Seattle Children’s Hospital. There are several ways you can get involved:
- Pledge funds for one of David Cook’s endurance races. David will set a target time for a race, and your pledged contribution is keyed to his ability to achieve it. 50% committed; 75% for race completion; 100% for target time.
- Become a sponsored athlete and gather your own pledged contributions. Fundraise, train and race with other Legs for Lauren volunteers.
- Sponsor a Legs for Lauren pro-racing jersey and T-shirt. A limited number of corporate logos will be placed on the official Legs for Lauren / Seattle Children’s Hospital race jersey and T-Shirt
- Buy a jersey or a T-shirt! Better yet, wear one to a race and support us!
